Jesse Hernandez and the School
of Hard Knocks cordially invite you to join the West Coasts oldest and
most prominent professional wrestling school. The School of Hard Knocks
is owned and operated by Jesse Hernandez. Jesse has been involved in
training wrestlers since 1982.
Jesse originally started training in 1979 although, it wasn’t until 1980
that the Great Goliath, of Black Gordman and Great Goliath fame, started
training Jesse professionally. It was a whole year of constant training
with the Great Goliath that finally gave Jesse and his then tag team
partner, Juan Hernandez, the opportunity to finally step into their
first professional match facing none other then Rey Misterio Sr. and his
then tag team partner, Pequeno Apolo. That match took place in January
of 1981 opening the doors to the Mike LeBelle promotion based out of Los
Angeles with wrestling events at the Grand Olympic Auditorium, working
with legends such as Victor Rivera, John Tolos, Ciclon Negro, Mil
Mascaras and so many others from that era.
Jesse Hernandez spent nine years with Goliath helping Goliath with the
training of many individuals such as Tim Patterson, Bulldog Sampson,
"Canadian Tiger" Mike Lozansky and so many others that moved on to
become stars in Mexico, Canada and Japan.
Jesse Hernandez, through his work with the Mike LeBelle promotion, also
became involved with office duties, doing the contract and visas for
wrestlers that were being sent to New Japan. With Mike selling his
territory to the then WWF, currently known as the WWE. In 1983, Jesse
was then assigned to perform other duties under the direction of Mike
LeBelle, at the time that Mike had became the California promoter for
the WWF. Jesse also became a West Coast referee under the name Jesse
Hernandez and wrestler under the name of Jesse Cortez and as the
Intruder. Jesse worked actively with the WWF until 1997 and still has an
open door policy with the company. During those early years Jesse
trained many young wrestlers that the then WWF used for television
tapings in the 1980 s.
During the 90 s Jesse trained wrestlers such as Cincinnati Red, Tom
Howard who is now head trainer at UPW and Suicide Kid Mikey Henderson,
who with Jesse s influence, a movie on his life was filmed as well as
Rocky Romero, who is at this time an established wrestler in Japan as
Black Tiger, and in Mexico as one of the Havana Brothers for C.M.L.L.
along with Ricky Reyes. Rocky and Reyes both originally started with
Jesse at the School of Hard Knocks. Jesse also trained Kia Stevens, who
works in Japan as Amazing Kong, and now with T.N.A. as Awesome Kong
Jesse has students scattered throughout the world such as Italy,
Germany, Samoa, Canada, Mexico, New Zealand, and Australia, Japan, and
throughout the whole United States.
Jesse trained Rico Costantino of American Gladiators fame, who in WWE
was better known as the flamboyant RICO, Also trained Frankie Kazarian,
Keiji Sakoda, Melina Perez former WWE Women's champion, and former WWE Referee Marty Elias. Many have come to Jesse Hernandez for
additional training after being trained somewhere else. Including Chris
Jericho who came to brush up on the Lucha style before heading down to
Mexico, and then Japan, way before his WWE days. Currently Jesse is
helping with the training of WWE Diva Layla.
Jesse Hernandez has been active throughout the years as a wrestling
trainer, promoter, and actor appearing in such movies as Grunt the
Wrestling Movie, Bad Guy’s, Lone Tiger, Frontera Sin Ley (with Mil
Mascaras and Hijo del Santo) Body Slam (with Roddy Piper), Atomic Blue,
Ed Wood with George Steele, Backyard Dogs and for TV, Mad About You
sitcom. Most recently, Jesse appeared as a referee in the new TV show
Pros VS Joe’s with Bill Goldberg.
Jesse Hernandez has appeared in many television commercials for Pioneer
DVD’s for Japan, Miller High Life and Bud Light commercials. The School
of Hard Knocks was given the name by CNN News when a segment was filmed
at the school in the early nineties. The host ended the segment with and
I quote, "This is truly a School of Hard Knocks." Since then the School
has been featured in The Man Show, National Enquirer TV Show, The
Learning Channel, The Discovery Health Channel, The travel Channel, a
German Television News show along with a couple of Italian TV shows.
Jesse Hernandez with the Empire Federation name has been running
wrestling events throughout California and Arizona, allowing his
students to gain experience in wrestling. Currently the EWF has been
performing for the last three and a half years at the Knights of
Columbus Hall in west Covina, now running monthly events. EWF has done
many fundraisers for St’ Jude’s Children Hospital, has been doing
fundraisers for High Schools and Colleges and many Community type events
such various events for the City of San Bernardino such as the yearly
Delmann Heights Community Center and Boys and Girls Club. Jesse
Hernandez and the EWF have done many free events to raise money for the
community.
The EWF at the drop of a hat put together a free event for the Mayor of
San Bernardino to help victims of the Old Fire forget their problems for
a short while as they were housed at the Norton base since their homes
were burned down.
The EWF and Jesse Hernandez are always looking for a way to help and to
give back to the community. Currently the EWF with the help of wrestler,
Vizzion (Adam Harbour) are involved with visiting and feeding the
parents that are housed at the Ronald McDonald House in Loma Linda. The
Ronald McDonald House gives shelter to the parents of children that are
being treated at the Loma Linda Medical Center. Children from all over
the country and throughout the world are treated there. It’s up to
donations and outside help that are able to help feed those parents that
are housed at the Ronald McDonald House.
Vizzion and other wrestlers visit elementary schools, and read to
youngsters for the Read Across America project. EWF wrestlers with the
guidance of Vizzion also visit Veterans at Hospitals and recovery homes.
It is that attitude that makes the EWF and the School of Hard Knocks
stand out among other wrestling schools. EWF School of Hard Knocks is
about making a difference on our youth and on our community.
The School of Hard Knocks has been in business longer then any other
professional wrestling school in California, and continues to enjoy both
a reputation and a proven record of professional wrestlers who began
