Hello sports fans! Empire Wrestling Federation’s correspondent Brandi Mendez coming back with my thoughts on the happenings of the EWF’s corner of the world. The upcoming engagement for the EWF is the highly anticipated July 6 in Covina. EWF fans will see Brandon Gatson, Mike Maze and Joey Ryan face off for the vacant EWF Championship.

“Handsome” Johnny Starr handing over the EWF Championship on June 1st.

If you missed out on how we’ve gotten up to this point in the EWF world, let’s catch up. The “Midnight Cowboy, Handsome” Johnny Starr sent shockwaves on June 1 when he surrendered the EWF Championship, to recover from injuries sustained throughout his career. Within minutes of Starr relinquishing the championship over to the EWF brass, the “87% God” himself Ryan, appears through the curtains, demanding that he be the next champion by default because he is the number one contender. Let’s take note; Ryan indeed was and is the number one contender. However, some speculations surround the “Hollywood Golden Boy” as to if he really wants the championship because he wants to be the pillar of the EWF; or merely just wants to satisfy his ego because although he’s been close, he’s NEVER held EWF gold. Not long after the debate with Joey starts up, former American Champion “Iron Man” Mike Maze stakes his claim on his best friend’s former title. Maze and Ryan already have an established rivalry since the 16th Anniversary Extravaganza’s Great Goliath Battle Royal, when Ryan shadily won over Maze in the competition. Then here comes Gatson. The “Gat-Man” with his legion of followers going bananas in the crowd, appears and puts in his declaration for the championship and reminds everyone that he is the best in the back, by far and HE should be the rightful face of EWF. While the three men start stripping of their gear and tempers flare, EWF Deputy Commissioner Marty Elias announced that Gatson, Maze and Ryan will face one another in a triple threat for the vacated championship, on July 6.

EWF in Covina on July 6th. Maze vs Ryan vs Gatson!

No matter your personal preference, all three of these competitors encompass tremendous attributes that would make a phenomenal champion. Historically looking, Brandon and Joey have faced one another many times, including back in 08’ for the EWF Championship, when Gatson was the defending champion. They’re familiar with one another and you can almost bet they’ll be able to anticipate what the next move is for their adversary, stopping at nothing at grasping what’s at stake. Maze is at more of a coin-toss type of odds. He’s 50/50. Some think he’s at a disadvantage because although he’s faced both Gatson and Ryan in singles competition, this triple threat is going to be one of the difficult feats to pull off, due to the magnitude of match. However, as the “Iron Man” has proved time and again, his determination to pull off a victory when his back is against the wall is what he thrives off of, let’s recall his victory over “The Definition of Pain” Terex, at the 15th Anniversary Extravaganza. Ryan is by far in my opinion, the wild card. He has nothing to lose. For the sole fact that he’s never held EWF gold around his waist makes him that much more of a threat in and out of the ring.

We’ll just have to keep our eyes peeled for what is going to transpire that night, in Covina’s Knights of Columbus Hall. Make sure to come out and see who becomes the new EWF champion! Bell time 8pm. Until next time ladies and gents, I’m Brandi Mendez signing off. See you inside the ropes.
